When it comes to landmark inner-Sydney real estate, there’s no other home like David Jones, according to development duo Cbus Property and FJC Studio, the collaborators behind 111 Castlereagh.
For more than 80 years, the Art Deco building at the corner of Castlereagh and Market streets was home to David Jones’ menswear, sporting goods and luggage departments. Today the vast site has been reimagined in a $1bn 22-storey development to house 98 apartments.
Built in 1938, the store will be crowned with a modern addition clad in Hawkesbury sandstone as a design shout out to the heritage building’s foundations.

The apartments start on level 6 and are priced from $2.45m.
Just two of the sky homes remain for sale.
“111 Castlereagh will stand out on the Sydney skyline, yet feel as if it has always been part of the city fabric,” says Adrian Pozzo, chief executive of Cbus Property.
Richard Francis-Jones, design director at FJC Studio, adds: “We have placed ourselves in the mind of the building’s original architects, reimagining this building with the same progressive ambition.”
In addition to the residences, the prestige project will include 11,500sq m of office space and a 9500sq m extension of Westfield Sydney’s luxury retail offering.
In a creative feat of extreme engineering and design, the curvilinear tower embraces the future while retaining a slice of Sydney’s iconic retail past.
They are priced at $12.1m and $15.1m.
The apartments will be complete in mid-2025.
Apartments will range between 62sqm and 463sqm, each with outdoor spaces from 8sqm to 176sqm. There are 11 one-bedroom units in the building – of which only one remains priced at $2.45m – and 52 two-bedroom apartments (from $2.95m), 29 three-bedders (from $5.85m) and seven four-bed sky homes with just two left for purchase ($12.5m and $15.1m).
The apartments, which begin at level 6, will have a choice of Hyde Park, CBD skyline, harbour and Blue Mountains views.

The facilities include a heated outdoor pool.
The interior design palette offers a choice of three styles featuring hand-finished stone and bespoke joinery as well as full home automation and unique floor plans.
Residents can also dip into resort-style amenities such as a heated outdoor pool, a fitness studio and yoga deck, a pet-friendly rooftop garden overlooking Hyde Park, an exclusive lounge space and a concierge for five-star services like dry cleaning, dog grooming and restaurant bookings.
Additional features include a state-of-the-art wine cellar accessible to only a handful of residents and a private dining room with boardroom capability. It is within walking distance of boutiques, parks, the State Library, Art Gallery, Opera House and train stations.
Construction is under way with the building due for completion in mid-2025.
