Sweedal Sequeira: digital associate at Carat
Time in current role/time at company:
I’ve been a digital associate at Carat for a year now. Time flies when you’re having fun!
How long have you been in the industry?
I’m a newbie in the media world, just one year in. But hey, I’ve learned more than I ever imagined.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
Well, my journey here was a rollercoaster ride. I started with computer engineering, but I knew I couldn’t code my life away. So, I took a detour, did a marketing postgrad at RMIT – best decision ever. Then, my friend Anmol who works with iProspect threw me a lifeline, and voila, here I am, living the dream.
Who is your right-hand who guides you day to day?
Shoutout to my kickass digital managers – Jessica Robison, Thuy Nyugen, and Victoria Alveraz. Jess, you’ve been my guiding star since day one. Thuy, learning with you is like a party and Vee, you’re a rock of support. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention Eleana and Nisha – always encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. Legends, all of them!
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
I mean, come on, the perks are off the charts. Meeting new peeps, working with cool brands, and those lunches, drinks, and parties – it’s the media life.
And the biggest challenge?
Coming from a different background and country, the Australian marketplace can be a head-scratcher.
Whose job have you see your sight on in the future?
I am aiming high. Andrew Macdonald’s got the job I’m eyeing – national head of paid search and social.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
Inspiration strikes from all corners – from industry pros sharing their wisdom, to AI tools, and watching my partner Ryan work hard and do so well at his workplace every day. But sometimes, it just pops up out of the blue.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you:
My Squat PR is 100kg and Trap bar deadlift is 140kg.
In fives years’ time I’ll be:
In five years, I’ll be thriving in both the digital world and my personal life. Professionally, leading projects conquering the media universe. A perfect balance of success, adventure, and cherished moments with loved ones.
