Report warns of inadequate training and retention of engineers, causing shortage
The Australian education system’s failure to educate enough professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics sectors requires “immediate attention”, a report has warned. 
The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering said its latest report revealed a “national skills crisis” in Stem subjects. The academy’s chief executive Kylie Walker said Australia needs to take “decisive action to attract and retain the workforce”, adding that it needs to become better at Stem to compete globally.
