The South Florida Water Management District and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are planning to carry out the Loxahatchee River Watershed Restoration Project in Martin and Palm Beach counties. The project entails constructing a 9,500-acre-ft reservoir augmented with four aquifer storage recovery wells; improvements to culverts and a new operable weir on the Cypress Creek Canal; plugging ditches to improve sheet flow in the Nine Gems tract; and a flow-through marsh to capture canal and sheet flow from the west. Onyx Partners is planning to build a mixed-use residential development in Concord. It will entail demolishing the 480,000-sq-ft Steeplegate Mall and adjacent Regal Cinema, and constructing five new residential buildings, each four or five stories, and containing a total of 625 units. Allete Clean Energy and Grid United are planning to construct the North Plains Connector, a 385-mile-long high-voltage direct-current transmission line from central North Dakota to Colstrip, Montana. Cavallo Great Lakes Ohio Wind LLC, the Cleveland Cuyahoga County Port Authority and the Lake Erie Development Corp. are planning to construct the Icebreaker Offshore Wind Energy Project. The project entails constructing a 6-turbine demonstration wind-powered electric generation facility in Lake Erie, approximately 8 to 10 miles off of Cleveland. It will be North America’s first freshwater offshore wind project. The turbines will each have a capacity of 3.45 MW, for a combined generating capacity of 20.7 MW. The project will also include an 11.8-mile long submerged electric line to transmit power to Cleveland Public Power’s onshore Lake Road substation. Construction is expected to begin in July 2025. Alaska Red Point Construction is carrying out a renovation project at Fuel Farms 3 and 4 at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage. The existing Fuel Farm #3 and #4 aviation and bulk ultra-low sulfur diesel infrastructure will be demolished, along with the underground JP-8 transfer pipeline, and reconstructed as a consolidated system at the Fuel Farm #4 area. The consolidated facility will have six 50,000-gallon double-wall underground storage tanks for JP-8 storage and one 25,000-gallon double-wall UST for ULSD storage. Flintco has started building the University of Oklahoma first year housing project, two 5-story dormitories, totaling 345,000 sq ft, with a total of 1,200 beds. Each dorm will have lounge and study areas as well as a large storm shelter. The north building will have a coffee shop; the south building a convenience store. 12/14 The U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs is requesting proposals for architect-engineer services for the Electronic Health Record Modernization Infrastructure Upgrade Project at the Manhattan VA Medical Center at 423 East 23rd St. in New York City. The project includes improvements to the following infrastructure: electrical, bonding, uninterruptible power systems, building management system interfaces, HVAC, reconfiguration, data outlets, patch panels, category 6A cabling, a fiber infrastructure backbone campus-wide within buildings and between buildings, diversified path for wide area network, hazardous material abatement, and relocation of existing data center to renovated space. 12/14 The City of Shreveport is seeking bidders to carry out the Dilg League Drive Sanitary Sewer Overflow Mitigation project. The improvements will include the installation of a wet-weather flow storage facility on the Atkins Park property to capture flows that exceed the capacity of the Hardy Lift Station. Wastewater will be returned to the collection system after flow rates return to normal. The project will address compliance requirements under a consent decree and enhance the resiliency of the sanitary sewer collection system. The project is valued at $10.3 million.
