Façade installation has begun on 520 Fifth Avenue, a rising 76-story residential supertall in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, which took over from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA in 2019, the 1,000-foot-tall skyscraper will yield 415,000 square feet with 98 condominium units, as well as commercial space on the lower floors and four cellar levels. WSP is the structural engineer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the façade consultant, and Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, one block north of Bryant Park.
More levels of the reinforced concrete superstructure were formed since our last update in mid-July. Recent photographs show the climbing safety cocoon reaching further into the sky, and vertical construction should steadily progress throughout the rest of the year and into 2024.

The first few floors above the wraparound sidewalk shed have begun to be enclosed with windows and paneling that will eventually hold up the rest of the terra-cotta facade. There are currently a set of vertical columns and horizontal spandrels surrounding the windows with earth-toned finishes.

A second construction crane was also in the process of being assembled over the past weekend. Sections of the yellow jib, trolley, metal counterweights, and other mechanical components were visible along West 43rd Street and Fifth Avenue as they arrived on multiple flatbed trucks.

The 1,000-foot-tall architectural height will make 520 Fifth Avenue the tallest residential building along Fifth Avenue upon completion.
520 Fifth Avenue’s completion date is posted on the construction board for June 1, 2026.

Living in LI now I miss the city and I actually worked across the street at 500 5th. Looking forward to winning Lotto so that I can live in one of these apartments in the heart of the city. I can only imagine how much they will cost!
