Award-winning actor Sir Michael Gambon has died at the age of 82.
He was known for playing Professor Dumbledore in six Harry Potter films and starring as Philip Marlowe in The Singing Detective.
Sir Gambon’s acting career wasn’t always in the cards however as he originally qualified as an engineering technician.
His career then took off as one of the founding members of Lawrence Olivier’s National Theatre Company in London.
He was also known for starring in movies including Gosford Park, Layer Cake and the Paddington films – including an appearance on the TV show Top Gear.
In a statement, Sir Gambon’s family say he died peacefully in hospital with his wife and son by his side.
