This month Insider visits the Virtual Engineering…

This month Insider visits the Virtual Engineering Centre at Sci Tech Daresbury, kicking off our guide to Liverpool City Region manufacturing. In Deals we focus on the tech sector and hear how Radius Payment Solutions has a growth strategy with a difference. Eamonn Boylan joins our panel for The Future of Greater Manchester and we feature all the winners from the biggest Residential Property Awards ever. In a new interview series we meet Fearless Adventures founder and former Social Chain co-founder Dominic McGregor, and in Property we look at land values and visit the factories of the future.
What’s in this issue?
As the office luddite I’m known for my hatred of technology. You won’t find me downloading a QR code or using the self-scan checkout at Asda.
However, I came back from the Virtual Engineering Centre and a colleague said ‘oh so you like that technology!’ And I do, because this is technology with a purpose that actually improves the process.
The Virtual Engineering Centre in Daresbury, I learnt, creates ‘digital twins’ of physical machinery and warehouses, allowing tech to be accessed and monitored from afar. My visit to the VEC kicks-off this month’s look at the Liverpool City Region’s manufacturing sector.
Liverpool isn’t the only city giving us a glimpse of its future. Features editor Robyn Hewson chaired our Future of Greater Manchester event. Among the guests were Greater Manchester Combined Authority head honcho Eamonn Boylan who pulled no punches.
In Deals we look at the tech sector. When I cast my eye down the data of tech deals, something stood out. Radius Payment Solutions were doing more deals than anyone else with about 30 in four years. So chief executive Bill Holmes was first on my list to call. He explained to me why he isn’t interested in whether a company is fast growing when he buys it.
We also have a new interview segment where we meet business leaders and get to know them and their motivations. With the news this month that Social Chain had been sold, its co-founder Dominic McGregor, who now heads Fearless Adventures, was a natural choice.
And sticking with the future, Insider’s North West Young Professionals Awards celebrates its 20th anniversary on 19th April. To enquire about tickets and entries,
