Work on a planned 30-storey apartment tower in the centre of Cardiff is expected to start next month. Construction group Galliford Try has confirmed it will deliver the £52m build-to-rent development at Guildford Crescent on behalf of property development firm The Marcol Estate, which is owned by the Rapport family.
The residential tower, which will feature 272 one- and two-bed apartments, is scheduled for completion in 2026.

The building will include a fitness studio, games room, and resident lounge, along with flexible workspaces and bookable private dining areas. There will also be retail spaces on the ground floor and a landscaped rooftop terrace on the 27th floor.
Cardiff Council approved plans for the development in November 2021. The tower is planned on the former site of music venue Gwdihŵ and two former restaurants, Madeira and Thai House. The buildings were demolished in 2019 despite opposition from members of the community and local politicians.
The project is located within the wider area to the east of the city centre which is currently being revamped as part of Cardiff’s ‘Canal Quarter’. This includes the reopening of The Dock Feeder Canal on Churchill Way, which starts at Queen Street at the Capitol Shopping Centre.
The ongoing redevelopment of the canal, which began in February 2022, is part of Cardiff Council’s rejuvenation plan to develop a green public space with outdoor seating and an amphitheatre-style outdoor performance area.
Bill Hocking, chief executive of Galliford Try, said: “Build to rent is a key area for growth within our business’s sustainable growth strategy.
“The Guildford Crescent scheme is the first of a number of similar schemes we are taking on in this space and we look forward to creating fantastic new living spaces for the community in Cardiff alongside our partners.”
