Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART)
Tribunal Member with expertise in economics and economic regulation. Commitment of 2-3 days per week on a term of up to 5 years.
IPART is an independent, strategic agency of the NSW Government, charged with regulating essential services to ensure effective social, environmental and economic outcomes, and undertaking reviews to advise Government on policy, efficiency and effectiveness of services, and consumer prices.
IPART is:
• the independent pricing regulator for water, public transport and local government
• the licence administrator of water, electricity and gas
• the scheme administrator and regulator of the Energy Security Safeguard
• the market monitor for energy, the retail ethanol fuel market, and biodiversity credits.
IPART is led by three independent Tribunal Members, responsible for decision making on pricing, licensing and compliance matters as well as for a diverse range of commissioned reviews at the request of NSW Government. The Tribunal is assisted by approximately 150 staff from a range of professional backgrounds including economics, engineering, law, science and business. We are recruiting a permanent Tribunal Member with specific expertise in economics and economic regulation for an immediate appointment. This is a part-time role and requires a commitment of 2 – 3 days a week for a term of up to five-years. We are also looking for potential Temporary Tribunal Members or part-time Committee Members. To be considered for these roles, you may bring experience in economics, law, engineering, business or consumer affairs and demonstrate understanding of working in a regulatory environment in one or more sectors IPART regulates.
Candidates will need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of economics; the interests of consumers and the interests of suppliers of services; effective regulatory practice and decision-making. Knowledge of the NSW and Australian economy, contemporary challenges for communities, consumers and essential services, and relevant legislation will be highly regarded. Tribunal Members will need to be agile across a wide range of subject matter; they will bring sound judgement, problem-solving capabilities; and the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining the highest levels of integrity. Relevant postgraduate qualifications or equivalent professional experience will be required.
