SHELTON — A local metal fabrication firm is looking to add to its present building as it expands its operations.
ANCO Engineering, Inc., a family owned and operated company specializing in metal fabrication, is seeking a special exception to allow construction of an additional 53,200 square feet onto the nearly 142,000-square-foot building it occupies at 217 Long Hill Cross Road.
The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on the application.
The application also calls for additional outside storage and 43 more parking spaces, with 51 reserve parking spaces if required.
According to the application, the company’s operations can be expected to be up to three shifts per day and seven days per week as needed.
The company already received a variance from the Zoning Board of Appeals in July, which allowed an increase to the maximum lot coverage of 30 to 32 percent. It also approved allowing parking and driveways, as well as reducing the minimum setback from the residential district boundary from 75 feet to 62 feet and the setback from the natural buffer from 75 to 15 feet.
Anco Engineering’s website states the company “offers one of the strongest levels of competency in metal manufacturing, engineering and assembly on the East Coast. We specialize in the areas of sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, finishing, painting and mechanical assembly.”
In 2018, an addition was constructed on the south end of the existing building, the application states. At that time, grading was carried out to facilitate the current proposal, including storm water detention and watershed calculations.
The parcel is located on the east side of Long Hill Cross Road and south of Long Hill Avenue. It is zoned Light Industrial Park. The area is bounded by residential to the north, open space and Long Hill School property to the west, light industrial to the south and Long Hill Cross Road to the west.
Wetlands exist on the site along the southwest property line, and a pocket in the southern area of the site.
