Position overview

The Australian Plant Phenomics Facility (APPF) is a national research collaboration facility with nodes at ANU, CSIRO and The University of Adelaide. The APPF ANU Node is located within the Division of Plant Sciences in the Research School of Biology and provides research services to publicly and privately funded researchers located internally and externally to the University.
The Role
As part of the APPF team, the Research Officer will implement computer vision and deploy machine learning tools for object detection, object counting, image classification and semantic segmentation (morphologic feature and hyperspectral signatures from image datasets collected in our facility). The Research Officer will work closely with the Research Fellow and other Technical staff in the team and users of the facility to define those features, extract them and save them into our database. The plant features saved will be made interoperable with our information system and associated with the experimental metadata.
The Candidate
The Research Officer will have a demonstrated experience in Computer vision tools to detect, count and classify objects within images. Machine Learning experience is very desirable as is the ability to work in a cross-disciplinary team of professionals and academics in plant science, engineering and IT.
