Greenville may soon see a towering addition to its downtown skyline.
Developers have submitted plans to the city of Greenville’s Design Review Board for a proposed 19-story tower that would sit at 301 College St., right at the corner of N. Academy and College Streets, adjacent to Buncombe Street.
The mixed-use residential building, rising up on a 2.37-acre lot, would lowould sit at 301 College St., right at the corner of N. Academy and College Streets, adjacent to Buncombe Street.om over the eight-story Canvas Tower, notable for its iconic mural of Pearlie Harris, who served as the only Black teacher in Greenville at all-white schools before integration in the 1960s. The mural, it should be noted, will not be obstructed by the new tower under current plants, as the tower will rise up behind Canvas Tower.
The plans submitted by Dan Doyle of The Beach Co. and property Owner Canvas Tower, LLC, call for:
“The architecture of the new residential building will have a contemporary/loft vernacular, similar to The Beach Company’s new mixed-use property, Canvas Lofts, located across Buncombe Street, but with a more modern aesthetic overall, with the use of floor to ceiling window wall for the residential floors,” the applicants stated in their submission to the city.
The project will be a team effort from developer The Beach Co.; architecture, planning and interior design from Antunovich Associates; landscape architecture from Design Works; and civil engineering from Seamon Whiteside.
The Design Review Board will review the project on Jan. 5, 2023.
