After a winless, but spirited campaign, Chaz Mostert said he ‘cannot be disheartened’ with a fighting fourth place in a year he bid farewell to longtime engineer Adam DeBorre.
In a year where the Mustangs struggled, Mostert’s #25 Walkinshaw Andretti United was often the one of the first Fords.
He led the championship after Newcastle and was a regular member on the podium even though a first Gen3 win remained elusive.
They were enough to lock down fourth place in the championship, which was the best of the Mustangs. It is an effort Mostert is pretty pleased with.
“We ended up P4 in the championship, and we can’t be disheartened with that,” he said.

The VAILO Adelaide 500 marked an end of an era for Mostert, who said farewell to his engineer of 12 years DeBorre.
DeBorre has been in Mostert’s ear in all-but one of his Supercars seasons having commenced their union in the 2012 Dunlop Series at Tickford.
The only year they were separated was in 2016 when DeBorre made a brief return to Dick Johnson Racing.
Whilst the 2014 win was wild having been in the Griffins Bend barriers at one point and being last, they produced a rocket ship no one could catch in 2021 even with the setback of a puncture.
Mostert will be sad to see DeBorre go.
“It will be hard to change,” he said.

“I have enjoyed my time with Adam. Passion is what motorsport is all about and Adam is second to none when it comes to that.
“The person coming next year has big shoes to fill.”
DeBorre stated the reason to take a step back was to simply “slow down” after a relentless period.
“Chaz has been great. We work well together and understand each other which is a large part of it. It is fun and enjoyable so why change.
“I have been in full time motorsport since 1999 and I have not stopped.

“We speak about the driver being at 10 tenths all the time, that is how I am with Chaz.
“I have my own business which will be my focus and I will go to a few race meetings.”
