TAFE Gippsland student Rob McNeilly will put his mechanical trade skills to the test at the WorldSkills Australia national competition this week.
WorldSkills Australia is a national three-day competition where skills and knowledge in particular fields are tested against peers.
Rob lives in Seaspray and is studying the fourth year of his Certificate III Engineering at the Port of Sale campus.
He says he’s got a well-stocked toolkit of techniques he’s keen to impress the judges with.
“I am most looking forward to seeing how I perform during the competition and assessing the improvement of my skills and abilities after completing my training program,” Rob said.
“The wide range of skills that are required in this course helped me to develop my critical thinking skills – to analyse and evaluate each task and use my knowledge to the best of my ability.
“Studying at TAFE Gippsland has also given me the ability to gather information and quickly find a solution to a problem and manage my time well so that I’m well prepared for any situation.”
Having taken part in the WorldSkills Nationals training camp last month, Rob was able to identify any skills and knowledge gaps and develop a training plan to help him perform to the best of his abilities.
“I would highly encourage anyone to compete at the WorldSkills regional competition because it provides a great opportunity for students to become more passionate about their trade and gain access to more training,” he said.
The WorldSkills Australia competition will be held in Melbourne from August 17 to 19.
