International engagement – Faculty of Engineering – University of Sydney

We understand the value of building strong partnerships with the communities that surround us. With a focus on creating a digital, more sustainable and healthier future, we are committed to supporting initiatives and research partners worldwide.
The School of Computer Science led a delegation in Hanoi to develop relationships with key academic partners, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University, FPT University, VinUniversity and Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology. They discussed collaborative research opportunities and revitalising industry connections, leveraging government funding and industry support. 
The delegation also reviewed leadership and training models in leading companies from the Viettel Group, FPT Corporation, Vingroup and Vietnam-based Australian company Orlar, founded by alum Dr Lyndal Hugo, to explore PhD industry scholarships such as the USYD Vingroup scholarships. They also explored enhancing student experiences and learning by collaborating in competitions like the annual Coding Fest and course mapping for computer science degrees. 
In collaboration with VinUniversity, we held the Cyber Security and AI Summit that brought together key academics and industry leaders to explore cutting advancements in cyber security, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Our representing academics at the event, include Professor Ken Tye Yong, Professor Philip Heng Wai Leong, Dr Suranga Seneviratne, Associate Professor Zhiyong Wang and Associate Professor Nguyen Tran. 
In partnership with our Net Zero Initiative, we’ve engaged Linfox for industry collaboration opportunities and Hanoi University of Science and Technology to submit a joint grant. Further, we are helping lead the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee’s 2050 net zero strategy.
