Rising Kiwi youngster Brock Gilchrist is in dreamworld after getting a special first taste of a Gen3 Supercar recently alongside some legends.
The 2023 Toyota 86 New Zealand champion enjoyed a test session behind the wheel of the #888 Supercheap Auto wildcard Camaro that will be driven by Craig Lowndes and Zane Goddard at Sandown and Bathurst later this year.
After receiving a seat fitting at the Triple Eight Race Engineering factory Banyo based factory, the teenager cut some laps behind the wheel of the Chevrolet ZL1 Camaro at Norwell Motorplex.
Reflecting on the drive Gilchrist said it was the stuff of dreams.
“It was everything I had expected and so much more. The atmosphere was great and the whole team could not do enough to make me comfortable and feel at home.
“It was the coolest of days to work alongside Triple Eight Race Engineering. All I can say is a massive thanks to the Tony Quinn Foundation and everyone who selected me for the test and made it all possible.

“Knowing I’ve driven in the wildcard car and watching it go around Bathurst will feel pretty cool. What an experience.”
Gilchrist even caught the eye of van Gisbergen, who was impressed by the Katakana driver’s attitude.
“He asked all the right questions and did all the right preparation to do a good job.
“We went to Norwell the day before and did a little bit of driver coaching stuff but he was very fast and onto it anyway.
“The guys were stoked to have him there and he did an awesome job, and hopefully it leads to more opportunities in the future.
“He has an exciting future ahead of him.”
Fresh from the special Supercars drive, Gilchrist will head to Europe in August to race a GR Supra GT4 Evo in round three of the ADAC GT4 Germany championship at the iconic Nürburgring.

We’re back to normal after a few weeks on the road and this week we look at Supercars from Townsville and F1 from Silverstone, plus a little more.
Ford has finally won a race in the 2023 #Supercars Championship, but was it more the perfect storm for Anton De Pasquale or was it the parity changes. And what about #SVG, did he leave his heart in Dixie?
Then there is Auto Action’s very own Oscar Piastri and his stunning performance in Silverstone in a car one step behind his teammate in evolution. Yes Max won, but really, who cares anymore? Even he must be bored by now.
