SUPER 2
Championship leader Declan Fraser rose when it mattered and will start the opening Super 2 race of the Adelaide season finale from pole after edging out Matt Payne in a tight qualifying session.
Fraser’s 1:20.3761 set a new Dunlop Series Qualifying lap record and was just 0.0240s ahead of Payne after fast finish.
The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver is now tied with Payne in the race for the qualifying award, while fellow championship contender Zak Best starts third.
Fraser went straight to top with a 1:21.0086 lap and enjoyed two and half tenths on the rest after the opening run.
He was followed by title rival Zak Best and Cameron Hill with little separating the pair.
Hill soon made it a Triple Eight Race Engineering one-two before Payne found some extra pace in the Nissan Altima.
Payne blitzed a lap to be the first into the 1:20s bracket, edging out both Triple Eight cars with four minutes remaining.
But the timesheets lit up at the end of the session with Fraser flying to pole with record-setting pace despite coming close to Aaron Seton.
The likes of Robotham and Best were also setting purple sectors, but had to settle for second and third.
Ryan Harris made the only mistake in the green session by hitting the tyres at Turn 6.

SUPER 3
Kai Allen has scored a perfect 10 of pole positions after being the fastest in Qualifying for the opening Super 3 race of the VALO Adelaide 500.
Allen set a 1:22.0336 to get Super 3 pole and 17th overall in his Eggleston Motorsport VE Commodore with all Super 2 cars out qualifying  the Super 3 cars.
After the first runs of the short session Allen enjoyed almost a second advantage on the rest of his Super 3 competitors despite a small mistake at Turn 7.
Title rival Brad Vaughan was the next best, initially 0.9s back, but improved by six tenths with his second run.
Despite the best efforts of the Ford driver, Allen remained untouchable.
Some cars including Vaughan and Jason Gomersall in the retro Scott McLaughlin livery had some hairy moments crossing the Senna Chicane.
On the out lap of his final run Allen had a scary moment coming up a bit too close the rear end of a slow moving Ford AU Falcon driven by Shane Beikoff, but the pair managed to go through unscathed.
The second Dunlop Series Qualifying session will take place at 16:40 this afternoon.
