Floating homes cheaper than Sydney prices – nine.com.au – Nine

Some of the world's most beautiful houseboats for sale are cheaper than you'd expect.
In London, the architecturally-designed floating homes are commanding less than the median house price in the Sydney suburbs of Blakehurst ($2.58 million), Allambie Heights ($2.625 million), St Ives Chase ($2.961 million), Wahroonga ($2.65 million) and Abbotsford ($2.91 million).
One houseboat, named Port, is at St Katherine's Dock, within walking distance to the West End, and is expected to fetch £1.395 million ($2.36 million).
It comprises three cabins and has oodles of accoutrements – three bedrooms, two bathrooms (including one with a deep, egg-shaped spa), a cinema room which has been billed in the listing as a "cigar room" with projector and speakers, an upper-deck kitchen beneath a skylight and a biothermal fireplace in the bright and breezy living room.
The footprint spans 190 square metres of internally, plus 120 square metres of outdoor space.

The property is on the books of British real estate agency Unique Property Company.
Also in London is Bosco, a 1960's Dutch barge once used for ferrying grain and coal through Europe, which has been converted into a residence and sits handsomely on the Thames at Oyster Pier, Battersea.
The asking price for the special listing is £1.5 million ($2.54 million).
The fit-out, by British firm Lab Architects, has been featured in design magazines. The team worked to a brief to mould it into a functional family home, with teen zones, room for the adults, and even – unusually for a boat – a garden space. A crowing feature is the cinema room in the bow.
A central deck looks out over the Thames and the city skyline, in a plum part of London not far from Gordon Ramsay's London House restaurant and boutiques including Vivienne Westwood.

"We carved up the original hold space below deck into three parts – the master bedroom suite in the stern, children's quarters to the bow and social spaces in the middle," Lab's project profile, on its website, explains.
Better still, because it is a houseboat the sale is except from stamp duty, the listing says.
Real estate agency The Modern House is handling the campaign.
