An executive with more than 35 years of professional experience across civil engineering and mining has been named National President and Board Chair of Engineers Australia.

Dr Raj Aseervatham has accepted the position, effective 1 January 2024, and is excited to lead the organisation as it continues to deliver on its current strategy.
“I am also enthusiastic about bringing the culture of engineering into everyday conversations and making it more relatable to the human experience,” he said.
“From classrooms to dinner tables and loungerooms, I hope we can inspire the next generation of engineers. The role engineering plays in meeting a broad spectrum of societal needs, and addressing critical threats such as climate change, is so crucial to human progress and wellbeing.”
Engineers Australia CEO, Romilly Madew AO, said Dr Aseervatham is well equipped to lead the organisation.
“Raj brings extensive engineering knowledge and leadership experience to the role,” she said.
“He is an accomplished senior executive with a long Australian and international career and is an experienced board director. He was admitted as an Engineers Australia fellow in 2012 and joined the board of Engineers Australia in 2019.”
Madew also thanked departing National President and Chair Dr Nick Fleming for his profound contribution to the organisation, both as a Board Director from 2017 and Chair from 2021.
“Nick has been a wonderful advocate for the profession and has amplified the voice of engineers through his role,” said Madew.
“Working with the Board and the Executive, he has driven an organisational strategy that will determine the path of Engineers Australia for many years to come. As a leader he has challenged us, urged us to look at diverse ways of working and what it means to have an impact.”
Dr Aseervatham has more than 35 years of professional experience, commencing his career as a civil infrastructure engineer in local and state government. He has worked in two ASX 50 mining companies and one ASX 50 energy company, consulting, and audit/assurance firms in Australia and overseas and is a twice-published author on organisational leadership.
