WITH 360-degree water views, no neighbours and total privacy, what’s not to love about the island lifestyle?
For anyone looking to make their Tassie island dream a reality, Ram Island hit the market this week and its stunning beauty is sure to catch the eye.
Located off Pontypool, between Orford and Swansea on the East Coast, Ram offers 26ha of natural beauty, birdlife, fishing and “unforgettable views”.
Listed for sale by Phillipa Jenkins of Jenkins & Co Property, Ram Island is described as “seductive” and will be sold via expressions of interest.
While some Tasmanian islands that hit the market are uninhabited, this one features a bespoke five-bedroom, three-bathroom house.
Mrs Jenkins said every room provides superb views that have to be seen to be believed.
“It offers inviting spaces for entertaining, outstanding size and sights to match,” she said.
“The accommodation is luxurious, including a study and a media room.
“There is a 243sq m wraparound deck, a walk-in cool room and a wet bar.
“Ram Island is brimming with potential for an eco-resort development if so desired, subject to council approval.”

At the top of the state, the 200ha-plus Vansittart Island is for sale “by offer” and listed with Knight Frank.
This piece of paradise is located between Flinders and Cape Barren islands, and is described as “untouched”.
There is a three-bedroom cottage, a deck with a big fireplace and a jetty.
“Vansittart Island delivers fabulous first impressions and never-ending memories,” says Knight Frank sales consultant Doug Marshall.
Part of Vansittart is held in exclusive ‘leasehold interest’ with the Crown.

Just like houses, not all island sales are created equal in size or sale price.
The 157ha East Kangaroo Island at Whitemark sold for an undisclosed price in 2020.
About a decade ago, Smooth Island off Murdunna fetched about $900,000.
Waterhouse Island was sold in 2016 for about $5.5m, with Singaporean businessman James Koh from the Fragrance Group believed to be the purchaser.

Property developer Peter Huang has offered Ninth Island to the market a few times in recent years.
At one point, Mr Huang wanted to build an eco-resort on the island.
It is for sale by expressions of interest and described as a “similar price to a prestigious three-bedroom unit in Sydney”.
The 16ha Ninth Island is about 1.3km long and 550m wide.

The island, which shares its name with the popular wine, is known as a paradise for penguins, dolphins, seals and birds.
It is also noted for a maritime incident that involved the vessel Sheerwater, captained by the grandfather of Crown Princess of Denmark Mary Donaldson.
In 1962 Captain Peter Donaldson was on a voyage from Bass Strait Islands with a cargo of livestock, when it was lost off Ninth Island.
Sheerwater was wrecked on a reef just off Ninth Island and the crew was saved.
There are still remains of the ship on the island today.
Ninth Island’s sale listing says a development application is in progress.
