Australia mulls extending life of largest coal plant – Power Engineering®️

The New South Wales (NSW) state minister for climate change said Australia is considering extending the life of the country’s largest coal-fired plant, according to a Reuters report.
Origin Energy had said it would shut down the Eraring plant seven years ahead of schedule in 2025, partly because of falling power prices.
However, officials cited surging power prices and concerns that renewable energy sources are not coming online fast enough to offset retiring fossil fuel plants to make the case for delaying Eraring’s retirement.
According to Reuters, New South Wales Minister for Climate Change Penelope Sharpe said a government-commissioned report had made the case for extending the plant’s life and the government would speak with Origin about the plant’s future.
